ICLEI Members Espoo (Finland), Mannheim (Germany) and Umeå (Sweden), are three of the first cities implementing a Local Green Deal (LGD) to accelerate and scale-up their green transition. Many other cities, such as those in the IntelligentCitiesChallenge (ICC), are now following suit and exploring how they can use LGDs for their own cities. Two new publications can support them with their first steps!

Local Green Deal Blueprint in Action, a publication from the Alliance project, coordinated by ICLEI Europe, and Evergreen project, summarises the three pilot cities’ experiences and best practice approaches for implementing a LGD in an easily accessible step-by-step format. The resource captures the learnings from these cities in relation to the ICC Blueprint. From each city learn how the management of the LGD was organised, how the municipality’s stakeholders were activated, and what are the proposed actions following the agreements with local businesses.

Even more in-depth guidance from Mannheim can be found in a new e-book Participation for Transformation: Concepts, Approaches, and Insights for European Cities, available online for free. In two chapters, the city gives insights on concrete implementation, city administration collaboration and structures as well as communicating LGDs to the public.

These resources will help cities across Europe realise LGDs in their own communities.
